Here are the verses of "Detroit State of Mind" from the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences Choir rendition of the Jay Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind."

Detroit State of Mind - Verse #1 (LaGemma Sims)

Yeah, I'm 'bout that Detroit downtown on Jefferson and I go to
D.A.A.S., so you know I represent!
When I go to school I have to get my education. Can't act
immature, I don't have time to waste.
Put my new J's on, gotta look fresh, at our DAAS shows, I
want to do my best. Science Fair, Talent Show, at my graduation -

Wayne State University Higher Education.
I want to be a doctor and a lawyer, too. That's what I'm going to
do when I finish school.
Yeah, I'm from the D where many stars are made. Aretha Franklin,
Temptations - Motor City made!
Cruisin' down Jefferson in my Ford Flex, just passed Ford Field
and saw Jahvid Best.
My name is Gemma-G and I'm going freestyle, so everybody sit
here and stay awhile!

Detroit State of Mind - Verse #2 (Lawrence Patton)

Catch me at Comerica, Yeah you know that's Tiger Town
And I make a Tiger hat more famous than a Tiger can.
You should know we bleed oil, but we're not a car though
'Cause we're Motor City and you know we came far though.
Welcome to the D-Town home of the Renaissance.
Headin' down Jefferson about to chill at Belle Isle.
Chrysler, GM and Ford! Ridin' in my Mustang with the
Lamborghini doors.
Got the people screamin', "More! More! More!" So we turn
around and give an encore.
Lions, Pistons, Red Wings too. Back to back champions - you know how we do!
We love our city, so don't have pity. Some people get scared and
they act a little jittery.
GM building, long live the Renaissance. Long live DAAS because
all these stuff is from.......

Detroit State of Mind - Verse #3 (Melody Williams)

Motor City is the place to be, Detroit 3-1-3
Ford and GMC, those are the cars that you will see
Can't forget Chrysler, cars are the best. A black 200? Yeah, that's fresh!
And everybody else you see, standin' right behind me UAW house of Solidarity
Detroit residents! Can't get any better. DAAS representatives, can't get any fresher.
DSO and Art Institute, great summer festivals, lots of places to live - Yeah!
This is the best city here in Michigan. Lansing is the capital but Detroit always should've been.
Drove in like a superstar in a Detroit car, lookin' like a winner for the city that we love.
Got the blue and orange on feelin' like ambassadors for the city that you know we all adore!
