The Creations contest, sponsored by Cass Clay and The Forum, offers students the opportunity to showcase their creativity in three different areas: Design an Ad Students design a real ad for a local business, non-profit organization or an event happening at your school. We have changed the aspect where we assign a business to you. Now, you can decide together, as a class, who you would like to design an ad for. More details on this in the teachers guide that will be mailed out to you, after registering. Write an Editorial Students write an editorial stating their personal opinions on a topic of their choice. Essays need to be 250 words or fewer; brevity is encouraged. One entry per student. Create an Editorial Cartoon Students create an editorial cartoon that illustrates their personal opinions on any subject. Cartoons should be drawn in black felt-tip ink on white 8.5 x 11 sized unlined paper. One entry per student. Entries are compared with other student works in the same age category. Student winners in each contest receive first-, second-, and third-place cash prizes of $40, $25 and $20 in each of five age groups: grade K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-9 and 10-12. Winners are also invited to a special awards dinner sponsored by Cass-Clay and The Forum.
Participation may be in one, two or all three contests listed. Teachers receive a complete curriculum guide and sponsored newspapers. A workshop will be offered Thursday, Jan. 26, at The Forum, 101 5th St. N., Fargo, from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring The Forum's cartoonist Trygve Olson and editorial page editor Jack Zaleski. Cass-Clay's exclusive sponsorship enables The Forum to provide each participating teacher with newspapers during the contest from February 1st through February 29th.
Contest instruction packets will be sent to each participating teacher before the contest. Entries can be submitted by e-mail!
The Creations supplement will be distributed with The Forum Thursday, April 19th. Each participating classroom will receive a set of 30 newspapers that day.
