Activities:

1. Draw a picture of ducks in a wetland area. Paste newspaper words that describe ducks around the border of your picture.

2. With a friend, go through the newspaper and circle any pictures of ducks. How are ducks presented? In ads? News stories?

3. Survey friends and family members. Ask them to name the different ways ducks are useful. Compile a list of the answers. Which answers were given most frequently?

4. How are these important to ducks: (a) glands, (b) wetlands, (c) down and (d) bird highways?

5. Use the internet to locate the wetland nearest to where you live. Write several paragraphs about the wetlands. What animal life is found there? What plant life? How do the wetlands contribute to your community?

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them.

This week's standard:
Students understand the interactions of animals and their environments. (Science: Life Science)

(standards by Dr. Sherrye D. Garrett, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi)
