Activities:

1. Draw a picture of a woman leader. Around the picture, paste newspaper words that show what women leaders can bring to their political positions

2. In the newspaper, circle the names of any women in political leadership. Include local, state and national leaders.

3. Collect news stories about Nancy Pelosi. Paste each story on a piece of paper. Under the story, write several sentences explaining how Pelosi is doing her job as speaker of the House of Representatives.

4. What are some unusual facts about (a) Nancy Pelosi, (b) Jeannette Rankin, (c) Margaret Chase Smith and (d) the U.S. House of Representatives?

5. What is public service? Why do you think people want to go into public service? Write a paragraph discussing what public service means to you.
