Why are millennials under the microscope?
Headlines have generalized millions of people, calling millennials "The Me Me Me Generation" for years, portraying them as lazy, shallow-minded, non-committal, smartphone-toting, selfie-taking narcissists. A millennial is defined as a person born in the 1980s or 1990s. Of the 73 million millennials in the United States, 15.1 percent of 25- to 34- year-olds are still living with their parents. That's the highest proportion since 1960.
■Class discussion: Are millennials being unfairly criticized? Why or why not? What role has the economy played in millennials staying with their parents or avoiding marriage? Were millennials “spoiled” by adults being “too easy” on them as children? Do you think you are being “spoiled'? Do you feel unfairly criticized by older people? What do you think of the generations that came before you? Is there anything new about conflict between generations?
