C. The Belgian students in Brussels were joined by other teens in the German capital of Berlin last week. Many of the protesters in Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Australia and other countries have been inspired by 16-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg, who skipped school every Friday to protest in front of the Swedish parliament, demanding more decisive action on climate change.
B. The annual meeting of some of the world’s wealthiest people is held of at the end of January in Davos, a mountain resort in Graubünden, in the eastern Alps region of Switzerland. Greta Thunberg said her message to the forum “was that most emissions are caused by a few people, the very rich people, who are here in Davos."
D. Since the end of World War II, Brussels has been a major center for international politics, and it is the de facto capital of the European Union political and economic union. Brussels hosts the headquarters of the NATO military alliance. It also is a major European financial center and home of the World Customs Organization which facilitates world trade.
A. After violent “yellow vest” protests last month, the French government dropped plans to increase fuel taxes designed to wean the nation off the use of fossil fuels. Belgium is bordered by the Netherlands to the north, Germany to the east, Luxembourg to the southeast, France to the west and southwest and the North Sea to the northwest.
