D. Trump has been sharply critical of Britain and other NATO allies for spending too little on defense, opposing his desire to seize Greenland, and not supporting his war against Iran, which they were not consulted about. Britain has been a key U.S. ally through two world wars, the Cold War, and the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
C. The French established a port on one of the islands in 1764, and the British set up a port on another island in 1765. The Spanish and Argentines later had island settlements. British took control of the archipelago of 778 islands in 1833. Argentina has protested the British claim ever since.
