China Unique is a large website devoted to the subject of China's culture and history. The site also offers advice to people traveling to China. Topics covered on the site include geography, history, language, holidays, human rights, famous people, relgion and population.

Looking for biographies of famous women? Check out the Pocantico Hills School's Children's Encyclopedia of Women for a large set of biographies and a comprehensive list of Internet resources.

Peace Corps Kids World

The Peace Corps Kids World site is an excellent resource for world geography lessons and research projects. The site offers a unique perspective on social conditions in developing countries around the world and provides information not available on other sites. Peace Corps Kids World also does a good job of encouraging children to get involved in community service projects.

Arc Data Online

ArcData Online allows you to browse a world of geographic data to create live maps of specific areas of interest. Maps can include a variety of information, such as floodplains, earthquake zones, and demographics. This site is a great source of graphic representations of detailed data.

AskAsia

AskAsia, produced by the Asia Society, is your gateway to current information, news, and high-quality classroom resources on everything Asian. Teachers will find a long list of instructional resources for Asian studies and a school-to-school bulletin board for making contacts. Students will quickly find the Adult-Free Zone, where they can find E-pals, play Asian games and learn Asian words in the Activity Corner.

The New Deal Network

This site, sponsored by the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute and funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, hosts a wealth of resources for teaching about Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his administration.

Vietnam: A Children's Guide, created by children for children, features an online picture book of information about Vietnam, interesting facts about schools in Vietnam, and a quiz. Click on Teacher Resources for a wealth of materials and suggestions.

American Indians and the Natural World

This site is a wonderful resource for information about Native Americans, their beliefs, and their customs. Each main section takes an in-depth look at one of four tribes of American Indians: the Tlingit of the Northwest Coast, the Hopi of the Southwest, the Iroquois of the Northeast, and the Lakota of the Plains. A case study of each tribe discusses how the people developed and maintained their unique society in their particular geographical location. The link throughout the four sections is the connection that these Native Americans felt to nature.

CongressLink

The Dirksen Congressional Center publishes and maintains the CongressLink home page as a service to teachers and students. It is a great source of new, up-to-date information about this branch of government and how it works.

This site is a gold mine of information about Egyptian history, places, rulers, culture, people, religions, and mythology. Teachers, students, or anyone who has an interest in Egypt will find plenty of information here.

Peace Corps: World Wise Schools

World Wise Schools demonstrates the power of the Web by introducing current, authentic, real-world experiences into the classroom. Teachers will find a variety of instructional resources, cross-curricular lesson plans, guides, and more for teaching about culture and countries. Students will be able to use the maps, information, videos, and original content from Peace Corps volunteers for report writing.
